Become a FAMS Certified Expert!

The Fairbanks Aurora & Midnight Sun (FAMS) destination training program is designed to educate travel agents and tour operators on all that Fairbanks and Interior Alaska has to offer their clients as a year-round destination.

Conducted by the Explore Fairbanks Tourism Department, this monthly one-hour entertaining and educational webinar covers a variety of topics that showcase the destination’s main selling points, whether it independent visitors or group tours. Highlights include:

  • Fairbanks as a land tour option for Cross Gulf of Alaska cruises
  • Summer fun under the midnight sun
  • Why Fairbanks is one of the best places in the world to see the northern lights
  • Fairbanks as the basecamp for Denali National Park and the Arctic
  • Why winter rocks in Fairbanks

After completion of the webinar and a short quiz, participants will be recognized as an official FAMS certified expert. The certification will also enable agents and operators to participate in future Explore Fairbanks familiarization tours.

Upcoming FAMS training webinars are as follows:

  • October 20
  • November 10
  • December 8

For agencies with 10 or more, Explore Fairbanks will also conduct a FAMS webinar specifically for that business. For information on how to schedule your own exclusive FAMS webinar, contact Explore Fairbanks Director of Tourism Bill Wright at bwright@explorefairbanks.com.

FAMS supplemental training webinars

In addition to the FAMS destination training program, Explore Fairbanks is now offering supplemental webinars that go into more detail on some of the topics covered in the overall webinar. These supplemental webinars will feature brief presentations from Explore Fairbanks partners who offer a product specific to that topic. New additional webinars and the dates they will be offered will resume in 2022.

All additional webinars will be held at 10 a.m. Alaska Standard Time and will be recorded for those who are not able to attend them live. While not required, it is highly encouraged that someone participates in the general FAMS training before participating in one of the supplemental trainings.
