For the second year, Explore Fairbanks and the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute are joining together to host the Science for Alaska Summer Series, a presentation of free public talks throughout the summer at the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center in downtown Fairbanks.
The Geophysical Institute has hosted the Science for Alaska talk series for over 30 years as one of its largest public outreach efforts. During the Summer Series, Geophysical Institute scientists and researchers will share information on Alaska’s volcanoes, earthquakes, wildfires and aurora with Fairbanks visitors and residents that wish to learn more about Alaska.
The talks will be held on the second Saturday of each month from June through September at 11:30 am. In-person presentations will be held in the theater at the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center at 101 Dunkel St and will include a 30-minute presentation with extended time for questions. Visit the event page on Facebook for information about live streaming options available.
The dates and topics for the presentations are as follows:
- June 14: Mount Spurr Volcano, David Fee
- July 12: Seismology in Alaska and on Venus, Bryant Chow
- August 9: Alaska Wildfire Monitoring, Jen Delamere
- September 13: Aurora Season Kickoff, Don Hampton
