Whittier Alaska Chamber of Commerce

The Western Gateway to Prince William Sound

Our small seaside town has a lot to offer explorers that are ready to discover the many activities, restaurants, and favorite destinations of Alaskans and visitors from around the world.

Getting to Whittier is part of the adventure. Travel along the scenic Seward Highway, which is designated a National Scenic Byway and then make your way through North America’s longest rail and vehicle tunnel in the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel. The tunnel operates on a schedule to allow one way traffic access to Whittier.  Coming into Whittier the tunnel opens on the half hour (7:30, 8:30, 9:30 and so on) and on the hour going out.

Stay in one of the smallest towns along the road system in Alaska. Whittier is quaint, quiet, and unique, even by Alaska standards. We hope you will take the time to stay with us and enjoy the beauty of this hidden gem that is the gateway to Prince William Sound.

Taste the flavors of fresh seafood, homemade fudge, local Alaskan beer, and freshly brewed coffee. Take home the fresh catch of the day or just have fun watching the locals haul in their catch from their fishing adventures.

Locally made, Alaska influenced, and designed to keep you warm, our local gift shops have everything you need to enjoy your stay and take a little something home.

And if you are a history buff, you won’t want to miss the Prince William Sound Museum, the self-guided walking tour of historical sites, or meet locals along the way who are likely to share a story or two with you about Alaska.

No matter what you choose, we know you will enjoy your time in Whittier and we can’t wait to see you.
