Instructor: Serena Allen

January 22 & 29, and February 5, 12 & 15, 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm each session

Have you ever had a great idea for a physical product, but struggled to make it happen? If your child has the dream of making a go-kart from a trash can, for example, this course will give them the skills that successful entrepreneurs like Elon Musk or Steve Jobs used to make game-changing ideas into realities.

The workshop will take students through the hardware design process. We will cover active problem identification, before moving on to brainstorming solutions. Sessions 3 & 4 will focus on prototyping solutions, with smaller workshops during class on naming, pitching, and receiving funding for your invention (such as the $15,000+ in prizes from the UAF Arctic Innovation Competition). Session 5 will be a Demo Day, where community members are invited to see students’ prototypes and hear about their projects.
