Join us to make a Catalan tray—also known as a tension tray—using wild Alaskan “ditch” Willow. This straightforward form uses a few simple techniques to create a sturdy tray that can be used as a serving tray, a trivet for hot pots in the kitchen, for drying herbs, or for anything you can think of! Catalan trays are functional, versatile and lovely enough to be displayed on their own.

In this class, we’ll make an 8” Willow tray while Kadey shares her experience harvesting, preparing and weaving with wild Willow. Students who finish early will be invited to make a miniature “soap-dish” tray from Rattan—a great way to practice the technique with an easily accessible material.
