Sharpening is an essential skill to learn when getting started in woodworking. Working with a sharp tool can mean the difference between finding success and enjoyment in a woodworking task and being frustrated and ineffective. In this short class we will learn to sharpen one of the universal basic woodworking tools: the sloyd knife.

We will learn what we are trying to accomplish in sharpening, what sharp looks and feels like, and how to maintain a good sharp edge. We will have lots of time to practice honing our newly acquired sharpening skills.

All sharpening supplies will be provided. Students will bring their own knife to sharpen.

Please note: This class is not for sharpening kitchen knives. Some of the skills learned may be applied to other knife sharpening, but this class is focusing on straight carving knives.

Students will need the following: Please bring your own knife to sharpen.

Register online.
