Registration for the 2025 Citizen Engagement Academy is open!

This program is presented in eight consecutive weekly sessions (one evening, 2.5 hours per week) and is open citizens who want to learn more about the City of Fairbanks. Participants will be provided with light refreshments at each weekly session. Two additional activities, including an all-day facilities tour and a brief graduation ceremony at a City Council meeting, are also included in the program.

The Academy provides free civic education for those who want to learn how the City of Fairbanks operates. Through interactive department presentations, open discussions, and a facilities tour, participants get an inside look at the daily operations of the City. Here are just a few takeaways we hope to see for participants:

• Discover how the City runs and the impacts it has on the community
• Run for public office, volunteer for a City board/commission, or get involved with local elections
• Learn about City services, including public safety services
• Explore the City budget and learn how and where taxpayer dollars are spent

Applications are approved on a first-come, first-served basis, and classroom space is limited to 20 participants. First-time participants will be given preference.
