Intermediate Woodworking with Emphasis on Design and Layout

/
About
+-

This class will help with your furniture design process. We will look at historical architecture and furniture, types of joinery and modern furniture design. We will cover topics that relate to aesthetics, the cost of materials, and the function of your project. We will start with sketches and then make a drawing with dimensions noted.

The class project will be to build a chair. The goal is to work through the design process, make templates, and construct the chair. The approach will be divided between design, layout and construction. We will discuss aesthetic choices, joinery, the weight of the final product, what is working and what could be better. The chair will be the main focus of the class; we will discuss tables, bookcases, countertops and cabinets in less detail.
