Hot Strings Music for Kids

Instructor: Ryan Edwards

Fridays, October 4 – November 29, 2019, 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm each session (with a performance on Sunday, December 1, 3:00 pm)

Open to musicians 10 and older playing guitar, mandolin, violin, viola, and cello.

This class will play traditional folk and fiddle tunes mostly from American, Canadian, Celtic, and British fiddle traditions. Ryan is comfortable teaching guitar and mandolin, and has years of experience working in groups with violin fiddle players. He highly encourages string players familiar with violin, viola, and cello to join on their primary instrument or to try the mandolin or guitar. There are similarities with the tuning and fingering between many of these instruments, and he often has a few extra instruments available.

This group is open to various levels of experience, although it helps to have been playing for at least a year or more. Students with more experience may be interested in leading the jams, taking solos, trying new instruments, or adding improvisation and ornamentation. Anyone interested or curious should contact the instructor.
