This evening’s talk will be about a March 2019 visit to northern Finland. Entraining north from Helsinki, we shall pass through Suonenjoki, Oulu and Rovaniemi. In Rovaniemi we’ll glimpse museums such as the Articum, the gem of the deserted Forestry Museum and then the large Forest Products Center. Switching to car, we’ll see the Wooden Art Center full of sculptures in Kemijarvi, then snatch views of the old Lapp XChurch and the Alariesto Art Gallery in Sodankyla. Heading north through the boreal forest and on into the tunturi, we’ll see the sites in and around Inari.

Northern FinlandThis evening will be followed at a later date with an extensive introduction to Sami (also known as Lapp) traditional crafts, focusing on wooden pieces. If you wonder about life in another boreal setting, this evening may be rewarding.

Share some dialogue, coffee and cake thereafter.

Location: Pioneer Park - Cabin 66 - Front Room
