About
+-

Flint knapping is the art of reducing rock into tools such as arrowheads, knives, and spear points. We will cover the history of flint knapping, stone tools archaeology of Alaska, and dive deep into the techniques and mechanics of this art. Students will have the opportunity to break ample amount of rock. We will primarily be working with obsidian, the sharpest material on earth.

This class is designed to teach students the very basics of how to use the tools for knapping and how stone breaks. This is a skill that takes time to understand and to be able to create beautiful pieces of work. Our main focus in this introduction class is to get a feel for stone work and to inspire students to keep pursuing this art further on.
