Fall Field Trips

Classes visit ASI’s bird banding station to learn about Alaska songbirds and scientific research. Students also observe wildlife at Creamer’s Field, and learn the conservation story of Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge.

Programs are available mornings only (must begin by 10 AM).

Programs are adaptable and appropriate for all grade levels, however, they are best suited to students in grades 2-12.

The focus of the program varies based on grade level. Examples include: Alaska bird adaptations and habitats, the science of migration, taxonomy, scientific methods and field research, and conservation in Alaska’s boreal forest.

If you have a specific request, please let us know.

We can accommodate 2 classes/groups each morning, so we recommend sharing the bus with another class from your school.

The program lasts approximately 2.25 hours.

The program fee is $50 per class. This fee directly supports the Alaska Songbird Institute’s bird banding project at Creamer’s Field. We can accept cash, check, and credit cards.

The schedule is generally filled on a first-come, first-served basis. However, priority will be given to: (1) classes who did not schedule a visit previously in the same school year, and (2) an attempt will be made to provide opportunities for students from as many different schools as possible.
