Everyday Pottery with Lori Alexander

Originally from Ashland, Oregon, Lori Jean relocated to Alaska two decades ago. The transition to Alaska played a significant role in shaping her pottery career, as the limited local availability of clay required her to source materials from Seattle. This logistical challenge motivated her to refine her craft and develop her business.

Her dedication to ceramics encompasses each step of the process, from wheel throwing and decoration to maintaining an organized studio environment. Lori Jean loves the thrill of opening the kiln after a glaze firing— “I love a good surprise.”

Her exhibition, Everyday Pottery, showcases functional works intended for regular use. Each piece is dishwasher and microwave safe, and pie plates are designed to transition seamlessly from preparation to baking in a hot oven. To ensure longevity, she advises against exposing pieces to rapid temperature changes and recommends hand washing valued items. Lori Jean aspires for visitors to experience the same enjoyment using her pottery that she finds in its creation.

This fun show opens on FIRST FRIDAY December 5th (great seasonal shopping opportunity) from 5-8pm. The show will run throughout the month of December. The Gallery is open daily 11-6 M-S & Sun 11-4. Closed Christmas Day.
