Wooden butter knives, or cheese spreaders, are a traditional Scandinavian kitchen utensil and are relatively easy to make – serving as a good introductory green wood carving project.

In this class students will start with a green wood branch or log and gain some skills and practice with several basic hand carving tools (saw, hatchet, and sloyd knife). Students can use a template or develop their own unique spreader design and finish the class with one or two carved spreaders.
