Boreal Discovery

In Boreal Discovery we will use hands-on learning and exploration to learn all about the local flora and fauna of Alaska. Students will create nature journals to record their observations and explore local areas to discover the wilderness in our own backyard.

We will use field guides and our senses to help us identify plants, trees, lichens, mosses, insects, and mushrooms. Students will also learn the art of animal tracking and bird watching.

Students will be guided in the field with a prompt, followed by a discussion that connects to the theme of the day. We will play games that reinforce the new knowledge and conclude with an art activity to further deepen learning.

This class can accommodate a wide range of ages. Older kids and teens will be challenged by more specific tasks.
