Basic Fly Casting

Instructor: Fred DeCicco

Monday – Wednesday, May 11 – 13, 2020, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

In this three-session class, students will learn proper fly casting techniques for the simple overhead cast and the roll cast. The class is suitable for beginning or experienced fly fishers. We will focus on the basic casting stroke and the formation of smooth casting loops.

The first class will include a brief overview of fly fishing equipment and then practice of the basic pick-up and lay-down cast. It will be held on the lawn at the Folk School, near the Workshop. The second and third classes will be held on the back lawn at the Pump House Restaurant. During these classes we will cover false casting, hauling and shooting line and the roll cast. This course will provide the student with enough basic knowledge of fly casting to be able to fly fish effectively in our local waters.

Note: Participants should bring their own fly rod and line if they have one. If they have more than one, a 5, 6, or 7 weight rod with floating line should be selected. Please notify the instructor prior to the first class if you do not have a fly rod and line so that one can be provided.

Location: Pioneer Park - Workshop (Outdoors near Workshop + Pump House lawn)
