The Felix Pedro monument, located at Mile 16.6 of the Steese Highway, marks the historic 1902 gold strike that founded Fairbanks. Erected in 1947, it became the centerpiece of the annual Golden Days festival. The Pioneers of Alaska host a rededication ceremony here every July, featuring guest speaker Jerry Cleworth on Fairbanks' Legacy of Gold.
