- Complete the register located in the hallway outside of Council Chambers.
- NOTE: Normal standards of decorum and courtesy should be observed by all speakers. Remarks should be directed to the City Council as a body rather than to any particular Council Member or member of the staff. In consideration of others, please silence all cell phones and electronic devices.
- When at the table to speak, speak directly into the microphone and identify yourself for the record. Relating your physical location to the City limits is helpful.

• IF you live in the City as a resident then “My name is __________ and reside at address including zip code.” If you feel uncomfortable giving your residential street address then you may opt to say, “I reside in name of neighborhood within the City of Fairbanks.” If the City Clerk asks for your full address then you should comply.
• IF your business is located in the City, you may identify yourself to your business location “My name is __________ and I’m here in my capacity as Title for Company located at address including zip code.”
• IF your business headquarters is not in the City, feel free to identify yourself with your business address and, if appropriate, mention how and why you or your guests frequent the City.

- Your testimony is limited to three minutes.
- Begin your talking points by stating that “I am here to speak against the proposed Ordinance Number 6084.”

By far the most powerful talking point is relaying your story as a tourism or tourism-related business/organization, tourism employee, and/or resident:
• Speak to why the travel industry is important to you, such as the impact to your business or livelihood; your company contributions to the tax base of the City of Fairbanks and to the community, etc.
• If you represent the lodging industry, mention the negative impact that a 2.5% bed tax increase would have on your sales; and emphasize what your business already contributes to the community’s tax base via property tax, existing bed tax (the City uses 22.5% for general services), and alcohol sales.
