No other place in Alaska blends the richness of its history with present day. Transportation from yesteryear – sternwheelers, bush planes, railroads and sled dog teams – continues to provide experiences to visitors similar to those of past travelers. Sports buffs can take in a full schedule of hockey or basketball games. They can tee off late one summer evening under the midnight sun or view a baseball game at 10:30 p.m. with no artificial lights.
Nature buffs can visit the local farmers market and the botanical gardens. Visitors can enjoy a wide selection of indigenous and contemporary art and music and an impressive selection of galleries and specialty stores. Fairbanks is the venue for local fine arts, a symphony orchestra, and world-renowned theatrical and musical performances year-round. |
- Blue Babe is a 36,000 year-old Pleistocene steppe bison mummy on display at the University of Alaska Museum.
- Discover arts and entertainment in the North Star Ballet, the Fairbanks Arts Association, the Fairbanks Light Opera Theatre, the Fairbanks Symphony, the Fairbanks Drama Association & Children's Theatre, the UAF Summer Fine Arts Camp, the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival and the work of renowned photographers, painters, authors, illustrators, jewelers, and potters in Fairbanks.

“'Another day in paradise!' That’s how I greet people here, friends, family, and visitors alike, because, to me, this great land is like paradise, and I love it and its people. I came to Fairbanks from the east coast in 1975 to attend the University and mush dogs, and I never left. This land speaks to the spirit, with its big sky, northern lights, mountains, abundant wildlife, and extreme seasons, each with its own vibrant colors. Our people live life with enthusiasm and humor, and we love to share our passion with our visitors. We participate in numerous activities, from the strenuous World Eskimo-Indian Olympics, and sled dog races, to the kooky duct-tape built raft float contest (the Red Green River Regatta) and outhouse races. Our area is rich in its Native culture and artwork, and is home to performing arts such as symphony and theatre, as well. Hey, we’ve got it all! Come enjoy God’s country with us. Experience 'another day in paradise!'”
