In order to develop and execute its annual Strategic Marketing Plan, the
Fairbanks Convention and Visitors Bureau draws on many international,
national and state visitor industry research studies while commissioning
its own studies on Fairbanks.
Excellent on-line resources for
general visitor industry research are
from the Travel Industry
Association of America (TIA), Destination
Marketing Association International (DMAI) and the World Tourism
Organization (WTO).
On a state level, the State of Alaska's Department
of Commerce, Community and Economic
Development collects data about both winter and summer visitors
traveling to Alaska in its Alaska Visitor Statistics Program (AVSP).
The
Alaska Travel
Industry Association (ATIA) has conducted a number of research
projects including the following:
- The Alaska Resident In-State Pleasure Travel Study Report
- Alaska Travelers Survey
- Images of Alaska
- Alaska Highway Travel
A
synopsis
of the aforementioned research from the
current strategic plan is available.
At a local level, the Fairbanks Convention and Visitors Bureau has
commissioned its own research to include Denali Access and the Alaska
Visitor Industry Study, the Conversion Study, and Domestic Passenger Air
Service at Fairbanks.
