What's New : 2012 World Ice Art Championships

Fairbanks is home to the World Ice Art Championships, one of the largest ice sculpting competitions and exhibitions on earth. Held every year since 1988, the World Ice Art Championships has grown to a month-long event featuring more than 70 teams from around the world. 45,000 visitors come to the Ice Park to see these intricately carved masterpieces. The theme for the 23rd Annual World Ice Art Championships is “Dreams Come True” and promises to deliver over one.......

What's New : "American's Most Expensive Car" Comes to Fairbanks

A rare 1921 Heine-Velox automobile is now on display at the Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum at Wedgewood Resort. This massive car’s $25,000 price tag was shocking for its time--equal to almost $305,000 in today’s dollars. No other car came close to it. One could buy a fully loaded Rolls Royce for $10,000 or a Lozier Big Six limousine for around $6,500. For comparison, a Ford Model T cost less than $500 in 1921.

What's New : Fairbanks Eighth Alaska Visitor Industry’s Walk for Charity

Join the festivities tonight, May 14 for the Fairbanks Eighth Alaska Visitor Industry’s Walk for Charity where participants embark a four kilometer (4K) walk beginning at 6 pm from the Immaculate Conception Church parking lot and finishing at the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center at the “Celebration Station.” Participants can sample from over 26 FOOD BOOTHS serving a wide range of scrumptious snacks and desserts.

The local Fairbanks AWG committee will be accepting votes through May 14 for your favorite theme for the 2014 Fairbanks Arctic Winter Games (AWG) bid.

Members of the public are asked to vote only once for one of the following themes submitted by members of the community and selected by a local committee – Arctic Edge; Lasting Culture, Enduring Spirit; and Great Spirit, Northern Dreams. Grand prize winner will be announced on May 24.
