Fish on!
It’s what every angler shouts in jubilation with that first tug on the end of
the rod. Fishing season in Interior Alaska is almost here. The waters are open
and the temperatures are steadily rising. The daylight hours have reached over
seventeen and there’s no end in sight for an opportunity to be one with rod,
reel and wilderness.
Interior
Alaska is your destination for angling adventure—whether it be a day
excursion or a multi-day expedition. Find trophy Arctic char, lake trout, Dolly
Varden, burbot and grayling—with no-competition-in-sight vistas, crisp air and
plenty of fish.
Fairbanks is your gateway for impressive salmon fishing. In
anticipation of that first catch—here’s a grilled salmon recipe courtesy of
Bill Wright.
Grilled
Salmon
1 salmon
fillet (skin on)
½ onion
(sweet, red, or white)
2 tablespoons
minced garlic
1 lemon
2-3 tablespoons
olive oil
Salt/pepper
(optional)
Directions:
Place salmon fillet, skin-side down on parchment paper. Place parchment paper
with salmon fillet on equal size aluminum foil sheet. Slice onion and lemon and
place on top of fillet. Sprinkle minced garlic over fillet. Drizzle olive oil
over fillet. Salt and pepper lightly (optional). Grill on a medium heat grill
for 20 minutes. Pair with your favorite pinot noir. Bon appétit.
So pack
your gear, grab your rod and hit the water. It’s fishing time in Alaska.
