(Fairbanks, AK) -- Adventure Green Alaska (AGA), the state’s first tourism certification program highlighting sustainable business practice awarded Pike’s Waterfront Lodge its Gold Level certification on March 10, 2010 in Palmer, Alaska during a gathering of tour operators, public agencies and visitor industry representatives. Pike’s is part of the second round of applicants to the Adventure Green Alaska program, which launched in 2008.

Applicants for the AGA certification respond to online application questions about their commitment to the environment, participation in community and village events, awareness of climate change impacts, and green business practices. Business owners are also selected to participate in a personal interview and consultation with an AGA Board member.

Adventure Green Alaska (AGA) was launched in 2008 through the Alaska Wilderness Recreation & Tourism Association – a nonprofit trade organization for ecotourism businesses in Alaska. In its initial year, AGA awarded nine Alaska tourism businesses sustainable certification. AGA has a third certification process in progress beginning April 15 and ending on June 30 for AGA application submissions.
